How Do I Get Dreads Like Them?

So I'm thinking of growing dreads but I want them to look really good after I get them like Huey or maybe Bob Sanders is there a specific technique to use to help keep your dreads looking fresh like theirs I know you have to wash and re-twist them but I want them to stay looking like I just got them re-twisted. Also I trying to grow them kinda thin like Huey but I don't want them to look bad like Lil Wayne's and how do you get the braids with the dreads?
