Is there any good DRM removal freeware?

I want to fully utilize my songs in iTunes, but almost all the DRM removal software costs money, and the freeware I've found looks like it might screw up my library. Are there any reputable DRM removers that are free? Are there any options to remove DRM protection without removal software? Legal methods, please, but post anything you find out.
