Is there a way to tell if this person i know has some kind of a mental disability?

sounds like he has a learning disorder...many people with learning disorders are socially and physically awkward, and yet, far more intelligent than other people in some areas...they also may appear nervous most of the time, because they are very concerned about embarring themselves. treat him kindly, and he'll always be kind to you in return.
